Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe 2019 on Monday, December 9, 2019, at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tunzi beat out 89 other contenders in this years Miss Universe beauty pageant.
First runner up was Miss Puerto Rico Madison Anderson, second runner up was Mexico’s Sofia Aragon.
South Africa’s last Miss Universe crown was in 2017 when Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters won the crown.
South Africa has been in the top 2 in the past three years.
“I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful,” she said in her last response. “I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.” – Zozibini Tunzi
