It seems like the Comic Book battle for the box office has started to fire off warning shots. We are just weeks away from the release of the highly anticipated Avengers Endgame, and DC Comics fires back with the official poster for Joker set to release this October starring Joaquin Phoenix. Whether you’re a geek or not, this is shaping up to be one massive year for comic book movies, but here’s why Joker is going to be the X-Factor (pun intended). The last time we saw The Joker portrayed on the big screen in a main role was the electrifying performance by the late Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight, a role that landed the actor an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Now we have a story on the way that will deal solely with Joker’s origin story, and the question on everyone’s mind is;

How will this performance measure up to Ledger’s performance in the Dark Knight?

The immediate answer to this question is that time will tell, but the forecast for this film’s potential looks bright and sunny. Let’s explore why. For one Joaquin Phoenix is an extraordinary actor. He’s earned 3 Oscar nominations, and 5 golden globe nominations. Phoenix has the talent to reach into the dark pit of The Joker’s soul and those who follow the comics understand how dark and deep that pit is. Phoenix definitely has an ace behind the camera. Director Todd Phillips’ impressive resume includes the movie War Dogs, and The Hangover Series, which were both fairly dark movies despite their comedic elements.

If you’re anything like me, you are probably pretty excited about this film! I will be certain to keep up with more details as they unfold, and offer my thoughts and opinions on what we wait patiently to see when the film releases Oct. 4th 2019.
